Earlier today the Center for Early Education at the First Baptist Church in Marietta contacted us about a handgun that had been found inside a student’s book bag. School leaders requested an officer be enroute to investigate the incident.
When Marietta Police Officers arrived at the facility, school leaders had already rendered the gun safe. No one was injured, and all initial indications are that the child was unaware the gun was inside their school backpack.
We are investigating this incident along with DFACS. As the investigation is active, we cannot comment further at this time.
