Five vehicles stolen overnight from Butler dealership in Beaufort. Four vehicles recovered, one subject in custody.
This morning, employees at Butler Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep in Beaufort reported that the business had been broken into sometime overnight. Employees reported that during the burglary, vehicle keys were stolen and were used by subjects to steal five vehicles from the lot. While Sheriff’s Office deputies were on-scene at the dealership, Colleton County Sheriff’s Office deputies advised that at approximately 8:00 this morning they were involved in a high-speed pursuit with a subject driving a white Dodge Durango. Colleton County deputies advised that during the pursuit, the Durango left the roadway and came to rest in a drainage ditch. Colleton County deputies advised that the male driver of the Durango exited the vehicle and attempted to run, but was quickly apprehended. Ultimately, the white Durango that the subject drove into the drainage ditch was confirmed to have been one of the five vehicles stolen from the Butler dealership.
This morning, in addition to the white Durango recovered in Colleton County, three other vehicles that had been stolen overnight from the Butler dealership were recovered in Charleston County. As of this afternoon, the only vehicle that has not been recovered is a 2018 white Dodge Durango SXT. Investigators from the three county sheriff’s offices—Beaufort, Colleton and Charleston—are coordinating their efforts to identify the subjects involved in the Butler dealership burglary/vehicle thefts. The name of the subject in custody in Colleton County and a list of his criminal charges will be released when available.
Anyone with information on the identities of the subjects and/or the location of the stolen 2018 white Dodge Durango SXT is encouraged to contact Corporal Jennifer Snider at 843-255-3421 or Crimestoppers 1-888-CrimeSC if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.
