North Aurora, IL – Officers of the North Aurora Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 200 block of Linn Ct. this morning at approximately 7:33 a.m. 

Upon arrival, officers were directed to a 56-year-old female victim of North Aurora who had been shot twice, in her ankle and foot.  Officers rendered aid until North Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported her to an area hospital.  She was later transported to a suburban Chicago area hospital.  Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers were in contact with the West Aurora School District and nearby Schneider Elementary School was placed into soft lockdown as a precaution.  A soft lockdown means that students & staff are kept inside the building but school activities continue as normal.

Officers have learned that a light skinned black or Hispanic male offender approached another male subject outside, displayed a black handgun, and fired several shots at the male but missed
and instead struck the female victim.  The offender fled northbound.  A search of the area for the offender was negative and no further offender description was available.

Officers have reason to believe that the male was the intended target and that this was not a random act.

The North Aurora Police Department has increased patrols in the area, especially during school arrival and dismissal periods.
