2018 National Police Week May 13-19: Honoring and Remembering Our Fallen Officers

The Petaluma Police Department invites our community to join us in paying tribute to our men and women of law enforcement during the 2018 National Police Week from May 13, 2018 to May 19, 2018.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. Every year since, our country has taken part in a national salute to honor and remember law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to pay respect to those who dedicate their lives each day to serve our community.

This year, the names of 360 officers killed in the line of duty are being added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 360 officers include 129 officers who lost their lives in 2017, plus 231 officers who died in previous years but whose stories of sacrifice had been lost to history until now.

Here at the Petaluma Police Department we remember our fallen officers and the fallen family members of our staff. To honor these fallen officers our staff will be displaying their black mourning bands over their badges tomorrow, May 15, 2018.
