High Visibility Enforcement 19% Decrease in Traffic Collisions YTD

On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the Torrance Police Department conducted an HVE operation on Madison Street between Skypark Drive and Lomita Boulevard. Officers focused on “Accident Hot Spots” and vehicles not yielding to pedestrians.  
 
The Torrance Police Department implemented HVE operations in February 2018 due to an increase of 230 reported traffic collisions last year.  The Torrance Police Department is committed to traffic safety through education, visibility and enforcement in an effort to decrease traffic collisions and save lives. 
 
Year to date, there have been 626 traffic collisions.  Last year there were 773 traffic collisions during the same time frame. The Torrance Police Department is grateful to partner with our community in this endeavor.
 
17 drivers were cited for FAILING TO YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS 
16 drivers were cited  for DISOBEYING POSTED TRAFFIC SIGNS 
8 drivers were cited for USING THEIR CELL PHONES 
4 drivers were cited for RED LIGHT VIOLATIONS
