Advisory

Due to Recent Theft of Guns the Janesville Police Department Encourages Citizens to Lock their Vehicles .

The Janesville Police Department would like to remind citizens to lock their cars and remove all valuables including guns to help prevent thefts from vehicles. In the past week, two citizens have had handguns stolen from their unlocked vehicles. A Taurus 9 mm handgun was stolen on May 5th in the 1900 block of Linden Ave. and a loaded Glock Model 21 .45 caliber handgun was stolen on May 6th in the 1200 block of Church St. We ask citizens to refrain from storing guns and other valuables in your vehicles when parking overnight. Owning a firearm is a serious responsibility and it is every gun owner’s responsibility to help keep our city safe from gun crime. Leaving loaded guns in unlocked vehicles endangers the residents of our city.

Thefts from motor vehicles can be prevented. Lock your vehicles. If you have any information about stolen guns please contact the Janesville Police Department by calling the non-emergency number 757-2244. To report suspicious activity anonymously, citizens may use the P3tips app. Download the FREE “P3 tips” app at the Apple store or Google Play store to submit crime tips.

Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3:6 Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
