At approximately 5:00 this morning, Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a report of a gunshot victim on Big House Road, St. Helena Island. Upon their arrival, deputies secured the scene and summoned Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to respond and treat the adult male gunshot victim.

EMS paramedics arrived and treated the wounded man, while deputies interviewed him. The wounded man reported that he was in bed when he heard multiple gunshots coming from outside his residence. The victim reported that he was wounded by a bullet that traveled into his residence.

The victim was transported to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital by EMS paramedics for further treatment, while Sheriff's Office deputies and investigators searched for evidence and interviewed witnesses. Near the driveway of the gunshot victim's Big House Road residence,  multiple cartridge casings were found and collected. Witness interviews revealed that right after the gunshots were heard, a vehicle left the area.
