LAAPOA Applauds BOAC Approval of New Police Facility Project at LAX
LOS ANGELES — A new police station at Los Angeles International Airport has received the green light. On May 3 the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the award of a five-year, two-phase design-build contract for the new LAXPD facility at Westchester Parkway and Loyola Boulevard.
The new LAXPD Headquarters will bring together all airport-wide police operations in one state-of-the-art facility. The new building will improve policing functions and employee morale, as well as communications and coordination of operations and resources for essential public safety services at LAX. LAAPOA has long been a proponent of advancing the concept of a new police facility to reflect the gold standard status of LAX, which has undergone massive expansion and an exponential increase in passenger volume in recent years. The police facility is scheduled to be completed and fully functioning by the second quarter of 2021, making LAXPD’s 12-acre headquarters one of the largest police facilities in North America.
“LAAPOA appreciates the leadership of CEO Deborah Flint in prioritizing our new police station and hearing the voice of our members as she is making decisions that impact the safety and security of our airports. We would also like to thank BOAC President Sean Burton and Vice President Valerie Velasco for their steadfast commitment to improving our law enforcement mission,” says Marshall McClain, president of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association. “LAAPOA is looking forward to continued discussions and planning and as we move ahead with the building of our new police headquarters. This is a major step forward in public safety at LAX, and the surrounding community.
“Working together as a team, we are confident that we can support our mission of making LAX among the safest airports in the nation,” he says.
