IMPD 15th Recruit Class Commencement
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and Chief Bryan Roach are pleased to announce the graduation of the IMPD 15th Recruit Class. These 39 Probationary officers are out and ready to serve the great City of Indianapolis!
“As these 39 men and women are set to receive their assignments and hit the streets, this group of officers will return to Community based beat policing,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “The return of beat policing will improve response times, foster trust within the community, and make our officers safer. Every neighborhood will know their police officer, and every police officer will know his or her neighborhood. This class will be assigned to a neighborhood rather than a zone.”
“We are proud of what the 15th Recruit Class has accomplished to this point with their formal training” stated Chief Bryan Roach, “Continue to learn and work to constantly understand the community you serve. I’m grateful as your police chief that you have chosen to bring your skills and abilities to the city of Indianapolis.”
The 39 graduating members of the 15th IMPD recruit class were sworn-in on June 5, 2017. These officers have been assigned to the Training Division for the past 47 weeks. The recruit training curriculum consists of 1,048 hours of classroom and scenario-based training and 20 weeks of on-the-job training in the Field Training Program.
Of the 39 graduating, there are three females and 36 males which breaks down as follows: 3 White females, 24 White males, 6 Hispanic males, and 6 African American males. Two Recruits are currently away on military leave. This class represents IMPD’s continued effort in hiring a more diverse workforce.
Upon their graduation from the Academy, the officers will be re-assigned to the Operations Division; where they will begin patrolling the neighborhoods of Indianapolis. Please join us in congratulating the 15th Recruit Class!
