Deputies arrest a man for grand theft auto
DATE/TIME: April 29, 2018 / 2:07 p.m.
INCIDENT: Grand Theft Auto
LOCATION: 16600 block of A Street, Victorville
SUSPECT: Jimmy Newton, 43-year old Victorville transient
SUMMARY:
On April 29, 2018, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a reported vehicle theft in the 16600 block of A Street. The owner of the vehicle reported her ex-boyfriend, Jimmy Newton, showed up unexpectedly and after he left she found her vehicle missing. She told deputies Newton had previously taken a key to the car and had never returned it.
On April 30, 2018, Deputy A. Harvey located the Silver Honda Civic near a homeless encampment off Mineral Road. Newton was not at the location at the time the vehicle was recovered. On May 1, 2018, Deputy Harvey learned Newton was in the garage of an apartment near 8th and B Streets. When deputies arrived, Newton had barricaded himself inside the garage with a Pitbull. During negotiations to get Newton to exit the garage he threatened to release the dog on the deputies. Newton had armed himself with a sword and at one point held a knife to his own throat. After negotiating with Newton for just over two hours, he exited the garage and was taken into custody.
Newton, who was on felony probation, was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for vehicle theft and violation of probation. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on May 3, 2018.
