Incident: Wanted Sex Offender arrested in Petaluma

*******UPDATE to Press Release sent on April 19, 2018********
This press release is to update information regarding a Nixle that was sent out on Tuesday April 19 regarding a sex offender who had failed to register with the city of Petaluma and also had 6 outstanding warrants 2 of which were for failing to register as a sex offender. On April 19 the Petaluma Police Department was told he might be at a business in the 900 block of Lakeville St. however Steger was not located.
On Wednesday April 25, 2018 Petaluma Officers attempted to apprehend Steger when he was located behind the Target Store in Petaluma. Steger ran to the catwalk which spans Highway 101 and ran toward Stuart Dr. on the other side of the freeway. Petaluma Officers met Steger on the east side of the catwalk and took him into custody without incident.
Stuart was in possession of a replica Glock style type airsoft gun (see attached photo) and a functioning handheld portable police scanner. When asked, Steger told officers he had the replica gun for protection.
In addition to the original charge of failing to register as a sex offender in Petaluma and the 6 outstanding warrants Steger was also charged with making Criminal Threats. On April 25, 2018 Steger contacted a local business he was having a dispute with and made threats toward employees of the business and their families. These threats did make the victims fear for their safety.
Steger was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for 6 outstanding warrants, failing to register as a sex offender and making Criminal Threats.
