Advisory

USFS will begin burning, Thursday, April 26 in the Flowery Trail/Bartlett Road area. Smoke may be highly visible.

The Newport/Sullivan Lake Ranger District will be initiating their spring prescribed burn season this week with a few planned under burns. Weather conditions have been favorable recently to some drying of our fuels, and the forecast looks favorable for the reminder of the week.

The plan is to conduct an approximate 48 acre prescribed burn tomorrow, inclusive of Flowery Trail Timber Sale unit 18. Our burn objectives are to reduce post-harvest slash and improve wildlife browse. The unit is located approximately 18 miles NW of Newport along the Middle Fork Calispell Road (County Road 2022) continuing along the Bartlett Road (County Road 2030).

At the end of the week and into Saturday, if weather and air quality conditions remain favorable, the plan is to burn other units in this same vicinity, an approximate 85 acre unit and 65 acre unit. Again, the objectives are to reduce post-harvest slash.

Smoke may be visible from surrounding areas for several days.

We rely on partner support to complete these burns, personnel from Washington DNR and Idaho Department of Lands will be providing assistance.

Please see the attached flyer for further information or contact the Newport/ Sullivan Lake Ranger District at 509-447-7300.

And last, as always, daily weather and air quality conditions may delay or cancel out our plans.

Thank you!
