Prescription Drug and Opioid Drug Abuse Summit at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library May 3, 2018

The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Simi Valley Police Department are partnering with the Ronal Reagan Presidential Library to host a Drug Summit which will focus on the alarming trend of prescription drug and opioid abuse. Given the fact that this is such a compelling topic, the Acting Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Robert Patterson, will be the Keynote Speaker at this event, scheduled for May 3, 2018 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
This free event is open to the public and is titled, “Prescription Drug Addiction: A National Epidemic…It Can Happen To Anyone,” and will feature a six-member panel discussion consisting of the Simi Valley Police Chief, David Livingstone, who will discuss the opioid and prescription drug epidemic and how it has impacted Simi Valley. A representative from the DEA will discuss how opioid and prescription drug addiction has become a nationwide crisis. The Director of the Simi Valley Hospital Emergency Room will provide insight regarding the medical impact of this trend. The President of the community group Not One More, will talk about education, awareness, and support for those affected by the opioid and prescription drug addiction problem. In addition, the panel will have an individual who has overcome his addiction to opioids as well as a mother who has lost her child to this epidemic.
This dialogue should prove to be very impactful and informative and will be accented by the showing of the movie, “Chasing the Dragon – the Life of an Opiate Addict.” This video presentation will provide a great deal of informative content and work to form the context for the panel discussion.
We are pleased that the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library has offered to partner in this event by providing the perfect venue for this serious discussion. Adults and teens are welcome to attend this free event and participate in this important conversation. Each audience member will be given the opportunity to provide a written question to the event moderator, so that the question may be addressed by the panel. At the conclusion of the drug summit, there will be resource tables for local, non-profit treatment, education, and intervention groups to explain their services and answer any questions.
