The Upper Macungie Township Police Department has an important message for you! *Note from Chief Colón*

Dear Residents,

As we start to see spring’s warm weather here in Upper Macungie, I wanted to reach out to everyone with a friendly reminder regarding dog safety. It was almost one year ago today that a tragic incident occurred involving a resident and their dog. Similar events have happened nationally. The UMTPD’s priority is that you and your family members be safe at all times. Please review the attached document provided to us by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture/ Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement about preventing/ protection from dog bites, as well as what to do if you are bitten.

In addition to the information about dog safety, I would also like to share with you that the UMTPD continues to receive reports of attempted scams from residents on a daily basis. Many of these scams involve people calling residents and demanding money for various reasons. Complaints vary from persons pretending to be IRS agents, to others portraying themselves as computer technicians who want to remove viruses from your computer, and the list goes on and on. Please, be mindful of who you talk to on the telephone, and remember that if you receive an unsolicited phone call that involves anyone demanding you pay them money, you should think twice before giving away any personal information. Of course, you can always reach out to our officers 24 hours a day with questions ( 610-437-5252-Lehigh County Non-Emergency dispatch).

Lastly, please be sure to check out the UMTPD’s 2017 Annual Report in the latest Upper Macungie Newsletter. It’s packed full of information about what your police department is doing to keep our neighborhoods safe, as well as highlighting some of our community service initiatives.

Thanks for your time, and as always, be well and be safe.

Edgardo A. Colón
Chief of Police
