Alert Clerk Aids in Apprehension of Robbery Suspect

UPDATE: After the publishing of the earlier press release regarding a robbery suspect and vehicle, a clerk from the Auto Zone called to report a possible suspect sighting.  At approximately 5:15 PM, a clerk called the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety to say he saw a Hispanic male subject in the store buying a dent puller.  He also said the subject spent some time looking at spray paint before buying the dent puller.  The clerk said the suspect left the business on Commerce Blvd and was last seen driving North on Commerce Blvd.

Detectives that were actively working the case heard the radio traffic and began searching the area.  They located a burgundy Honda Accord in the parking lot of the Budget Inn.  Detectives noticed the car was the same description, had the described damage, and had the same license plate as described by the clerk.  As Detectives did surveillance on the vehicle, they saw a Hispanic male and Hispanic female walk up to the car.  The male got in the passenger seat and the female got into the driver’s seat.  As the car drove away, officers in marked patrol cars made a traffic stop on the vehicle for a vehicle code violation.  The driver initially lied about her name and then finally identified herself as 27 year old Wendy Torres.  Torres did not have any identification in her possession.  A records check revealed she had outstanding warrants for her arrest.  She was taken into custody.  The male was identified as 24 year old Hugo Eduardo Lopez Ferreira.  A search of the car revealed a methamphetamine pipe where Lopez Ferreira was sitting.  Officers also located what looked like a real pistol in the vehicle.  The pistol turned out to be a BB gun.  As officers continued to search they found over 7 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, approximately $900 in cash and clothing matching the description of what one of the female victims said the suspect was wearing during one of the robberies.

The victim was able to positively identify the clothing, suspect, and gun as the same that was used during her robbery.  The victim also identified some of her stolen property that was located in the vehicle.

Lopez-Ferreira was arrested and transported to jail.  He was booked on the following charges: Robbery, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, attempted robbery, and hit and run.
