Mission Blvd. Closed due to Fatal Collision

Union City, CA — On April 22, 2018 at approximately 3:03PM, Union City Police Dispatch received several 9-1-1 calls regarding a major injury collision on Mission Blvd. and Lafayette Ave.
 
Officers arrived and found that two vehicles were involved, a silver Mercedes sedan and a tow truck.  The occupants of the Mercedes were suffering from major injuries.  Alameda County Fire and Paramedics arrived and pronounced the passenger of the Mercedes deceased at the scene.  The driver was transported to Eden hospital where they succumbed to injuries received in the collision.  The names of the two deceased persons are being withheld at this time, until the Alameda County Coroners Office is able to notify family members. 
 
The Union City Police Traffic Unit is currently investigating the collision.  The driver of the tow truck is cooperating with the investigation.  This is an active investigation; therefore the name of the tow truck driver will not be released at this time. 
 
The collision affected both the north and south bound lanes of Mission Blvd.  At this time Mission Blvd. is closed to all vehicular traffic between Lexington Ave. and Tamarack Dr.  It is anticipated that this closure will remain in effect for several hours.
