News Release: Tainted Fuel at the Wanamassa Sunoco

DATE/TIME: 04/18/2018

LOCATION: 1001 State Highway 35 Ocean, New Jersey

OFFICERS INVOLVED: Police Officer Randy Slawsky

NARRATIVE:

On April 18th the police department fielded numerous calls for reports that vehicles suffered malfunctions after refueling at the Wanamassa Sunoco. Police Officer Randy Slawsky responded to the station and met with customers at that location as well as an employee who had stopped serving gasoline. Notifications were made to the Monmouth County Department of Weights and Measures.

Further information received on April 19th revealed that a sample pulled during yesterday’s testing revealed a significant amount of water in the gasoline. As a result of this test the station is currently closed while Weights and Measures along with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Consumer Affairs investigate the cause of the contamination.

As of this time, 13 vehicles were affected as a result of the bad gasoline. If you wish to file a claim with Sunoco you can call 1-800-SUNOCO1.
