Narrative:
Several Ventura County Explorer Posts competed in the North County Explorer Competition and received awards in multiple events.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Explorer program is designed to provide young adults (ages of 14 to 20) with an exciting program designed to build citizenship and develop personal and mental fitness.  The program’s goal is to educate and involve the youth in police operations and interest them in law enforcement functions whether they aspire to enter police work or not.
On the weekend of April 7th and 8th, Explorer Posts from Camarillo, Fillmore, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, and Sheriff’s Headquarters competed in the 7th Annual North County Explorer Competition.  The competition is managed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The North County Explorer Competition was held in Castaic, California.  There were 37 Explorer Posts that participated in the competition from various agencies across the Southwestern United States.  The competition consisted of events that tested the explorers both physically and tactically.  Some of the events included a 5K Run, Mud Run, Obstacle Course, and a SWAT Physical Challenge.  There were various law enforcement scenarios including; Building Searches, High Risk Vehicle Stop, and Marijuana Field Raid.
Each Sheriff’s Explorer Post did very well at the North County Explorer Competition and returned with multiple awards:

5th Place – High Risk Vehicle Stop

3rd Place – 5 Person HRT (Hostage Rescue Team)
Ojai Police Explorers
3rd Place 5K Run- Explorer Ashley Welte
3rd Place Mud Run – Explorer Ashley Welte
4th Place – High Risk Vehicle Stop
