Weather Advisory. Sheriff Victor Hill
Overview:
A strong storm system will track across Mississippi and Alabama through the day on Saturday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms ahead of it. While the highest instability and severe threat will remain in Mississippi and Alabama on Saturday, the threat for some severe thunderstorms will increase in west Georgia by late Saturday. Though some weakening is likely as the storms push eastward, a severe weather threat will persist Saturday night and into the day Sunday as this line moves east. Thunderstorms will end from west to east on Sunday as the cold front pushes eastward.
Hazard 1: Damaging Winds
- Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph will be the primary threat in the strongest storms.
- Though instability will lessen Saturday night, the threat for a brief tornado will persist given substantial wind shear.
- The line of thunderstorms will be relatively slow moving with rainfall amounts of 2 - 2.5" likely in north Georgia with isolated amounts up to 3".
- 1 - 2" is generally expected elsewhere.
- Given the recent dry weather, widespread flooding issues are not currently anticipated.
Some uncertainties remain regarding the onset timing, but thunderstorms should begin to approach west Georgia by Saturday evening and move eastward through Saturday night and into Sunday.
