On Friday, at 6:14 pm, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a dead body on the embankment of the Russian River in Geyserville.

On Friday (4/13/18), at 6:14 pm, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by a cell phone caller that they had found a dead body along the Russian River, east of a residence in the 21000 block of River Lane in Geyserville.
Sheriff’s Deputies and Geyserville Fire were dispatched and responded to the scene and located the decedent.
Deputies examining the scene initially felt the death appeared suspicious and requested detectives of the Violent Crimes Investigation Unit.
Detectives arrived as darkness was falling (dusk) and examined the scene.
After a preliminary scan of the scene, detectives requested the immediate area be secured overnight so processing could be done in the morning during daylight.
Deputies were assigned to the scene overnight to protect the integrity of the evidence.
This morning (4/14/18), violent crimes detectives returned to the scene with crime scene investigators. Together, the detectives examined and processed the scene and although the investigation is continuing it no longer appears suspicious.
At the request of detectives on scene, the Coroner’s Office responded and independently arrived at the same conclusion.
The decedent has been identified, but the next of kin has not been notified and therefore we will not be releasing the decedent’s name at this time.
The Coroner’s Office will provide the decedent’s name, and complete their investigation pending the autopsy.
