**UPDATE** #LASD Homicide Assisting Gardena PD with Officer Involved Shooting, 13200 Blk Van Ness Av, Gardena 
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Detectives are assisting Gardena Police Department in an officer involved shooting which resulted in the death of a male adult. The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at approximately 2:24 p.m., on the 13200 block of Van Ness Avenue in the city of Gardena.
Detectives have learned that Gardena Police officers responded to the 12800 block of Van Ness Avenue regarding a shots fired call. Upon their arrival they located a male black adult who was running southbound on Van Ness Avenue from the location. Multiple witnesses told responding officers that the individual seen running was involved in the shooting. Gardena Police officers initiated a foot pursuit and attempted to contact the suspect on the 13200 block of Van Ness Avenue at which time an officer involved shooting occurred.
The suspect was struck at least once in the upper torso and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A firearm was located at the scene. At this time it is unsure if the suspect discharged his firearm at the officers.
No civilians, nor officers were injured.
The investigation is still ongoing.

No officers were injured.
