Pursuit of Carjacking Suspect Leads to Arrest

On 4/10/18 at approximately 0024 Hrs., units from the Simi Valley Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 Block of Belmar Ct.,on an assault that had just occurred to the front of the victims home. While units were en route, it was learned that the victim's keys were forcibly taken from her person (211 PC) and the suspect had threatened to kill her (422 PC). The suspect then stole her vehicle (215 PC, 10851 VC). The crime was updated to a "Carjacking". Units checked the area and found the stolen vehicle traveling E/B on SR 118 near Kuehner Dr. When the vehicle got to SR 118 and Topanga Canyon Rd, a traffic stop was initiated. The suspect failed to stop and a pursuit ensued, with the assistance of an LAPD airship.(2800.2 VC) The pursuit traveled from s/b Topanga Canyon to w/b Plummer and eventually to Box Canyon. When the suspect got to the area of Box Canyon and Santa Susana Pass Rd., it collided with the hillside. The suspect fled on foot (148 PC), but was eventually captured. The suspect was identified as Lester Moreira, (6/20/89). He was transported to Simi Valley Hospital to care for injuries he sustained from the collision. No one else was injured. The traffic collision investigation was handled by the California Highway Patrol. Once Moreira is cleared from Simi Valley Hospital, he will be booked on charges of 215 PC, Carjacking, 2800.2 VC, attempting to evade with wanton disregard for the safety of others, 211 PC, Robbery, 422 PC, Criminal Threats, 14602.2 VC, suspended CDL, 148 PC, obstruct or delay an officer and 23247 e VC, driving a vehicle w/o interlock device installed.
