At approximately 8:30 p.m. last night, Sheriff's Office deputies and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to Peaches Hill Circle on St. Helena Island to a report of a male subject with gunshot wounds, who had driven off the roadway into a ditch. While the man was being treated by EMS, deputies learned that he had been shot inside of a Peaches Hill Circle residence, a short distance away. Deputies also learned that after he was shot, the man got into his vehicle, drove away from the residence and into the ditch. While deputies continued to investigate, EMS transported the man to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds. 
 
A short time later, Sheriff's Office deputies located the residence, where they believed the shooting had occurred, and found no one inside. Investigators were notified and secured a warrant from a Beaufort County magistrate to search the residence for evidence of the shooting. When investigators arrived and searched inside the residence, multiple expended cartridge casings were found. The residence was processed for forensic evidence and the casings and other evidentiary items were collected.
 
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and identities of the subjects involved are still under investigation. As of this afternoon, the wounded man remained hospitalized.
