The Fremont Police Department is actively investigating an Officer Involved Shooting involving an armed suspect.

This evening at 6:47 p.m. undercover Fremont Police officers located a wanted adult male suspect traveling as a passenger in a vehicle. The suspect had an active felony warrant for illegal possession of a firearm and had an additional felony warrant for a probation violation.  Several marked Fremont Police patrol officers responded to the area, located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle.   The officers turned on their overhead lights and siren as the vehicle traveled northbound on Fremont Blvd.  The driver of the vehicle complied and stopped at the intersection of Fremont Bl and Nicolet Ave.  Once the vehicle stopped, the suspect immediately got out and began running north-east towards a gas station.  At 6:52 p.m. officers broadcast that a firearm was pointed at them by the suspect and that shots were fired.  During the shooting, the suspect was struck and fell to the ground.  A revolver was located at the suspect’s side with expended casings.  Officers provided field trauma care at the scene until Fremont Fire paramedics arrived.  The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.  No officers were injured during the incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.  Initial indications are that the suspect fired in the direction of the officers during the incident.  Multiple Fremont Police officers were involved in the incident.  The name of the suspect is being withheld at this time.

The Fremont Crimes Against Persons Unit has responded to the scene.  The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has been notified as is conducting a parallel investigation into the incident.
