Sonoma County Coroner reports death in Monday's Petaluma Police shooting.

UPDATED INFORMATION on the OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING that occurred in Petaluma on Monday (4/2/2018)
 
The person involved in the Officer Involved Shooting incident with Petaluma Police Department this past Monday (4/2/2018), has been identified as 24 year-old, Luis Alberto Garcia-Vara, from San Rafael, CA.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office was informed last night that Mr. Garcia-Vega died in the hospital from his injuries shortly after 10:00 PM. His next of kin has been notified.

Detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office continue to lead the investigation into this incident with assistance of the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office in accordance with the County-Wide Fatal Incident Protocol.

An independent forensic pathologist will perform an autopsy to determine the cause in which Mr. Garcia-Vara died.

This incident is still under investigation with evidence collection and its processing as well as interviews still being conducted. Additional press releases will be sent when more information becomes available. All press inquiries regarding the investigation will be handled by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
