Subject:  Attempt Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

Location:  Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266

On Sunday, April 1, 2018, a Manhattan Beach patrol officer was dispatched to thefts from motor vehicles in the 3200 block of Oak Avenue which occurred overnight.  When the officer contacted the victims, it was determined several items had been stolen from unlocked vehicles.  One of the victims alerted the officer that she had video surveillance of the suspect committing the crime.  When the victim and the officer reviewed the video, they observed an Asian male adult (suspect) wearing slippers, approach the victim’s front door.  The suspect attempted to open the front door but it was locked.  The suspect then walked to the victim’s unlocked cars and stole miscellaneous items.  The suspect continued walking down the street stealing property from other unlocked vehicles.

Due to the suspect wearing slippers in the video, the officer had the foresight to check a local hotel near the crime scene to see if the suspect was staying there.  Officers continued their investigation and determined the suspect was staying at the hotel.  MBPD detectives set up surveillance on the suspect and observed him leaving the hotel.  A traffic stop was initiated and the suspect was taken into custody.  Several stolen items were recovered from the vehicles and the suspect was booked at the MBPD jail for attempt residential burglary, theft from motor a vehicle and possession of stolen property.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department strongly recommends all residents lock their cars and homes.  Several of the property crimes, which occur in Manhattan Beach, could be prevented if residents secure their cars and residences.  Please call (310) 545-4566 to report any suspicious activity or 911 for any emergencies.
