When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

On Thursday, 03-29-18 at 8:59 a.m., officers arrested a 22-year old San Francisco resident for giving a false name to a peace officer and battery (via spit) upon a police officer. When officers made contact with the subject, they saw that the subject had been drinking and was belligerent. When Officer Todaro asked the subject for his identification, he said the subject told him to take it out of his pocket. Without warning, the subject lunged toward Officer Todaro, and a struggle ensued. Officer arrested the 29-year old subject for battery upon a police officer, obstructing/resisting a police officer and for an outstanding warrant.

On Saturday, 03-31-18 at approximately 12:24 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Gellert Boulevard on a report of shots fired into a residence. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings in the driveway. The investigation revealed multiple gunshots were fired by two separate people from both inside and outside of the residence. Scams/Other

Rental Unit Scam

On Thursday, 03-29-18 at 12:37 p.m., a 19-year old Pacifica resident reported that she was the victim of a fraud. The victim explained that on Monday, 03-26-18 at 2:30 p.m., she responded to an ad on “roomster.com” regarding the rental of an in-law unit in Daly City. The victim said she agreed to send $600 via “Zelle” (money transfer) as a deposit for the rental. The victim later learned that the property on the ad was not really for rent at all, and the phone numbers she had for the “landlords” were unable to be traced.

Craigslist Ad Scams

On Friday, 03-30-18, a 57-year old Daly City resident reported a fraud that had occurred three days prior. The reporting party said she had made an ad on Craigslist earlier in the month to sell a used couch for $100. The reporting party said an unknown caller “Sunni” said a cashier’s check for $1,950.50 would be mailed to her address for purchase of the couch. The reporting party said “Sunni” told her to deposit the check into her bank account, keep $100 for the purchase of the couch and to withdraw $1,850.50 in cash and give it to the furniture delivery driver who was scheduled to pick up the couch. The reporting party said she was later informed that the delivery driver was no longer picking up the couch and was given a Wells Fargo account number to deposit the remaining $1,850.50 to pay the driver. The victim said on 03-27-18, she deposited the check and withdrew the cash and deposited the cash into the Wells Fargo account. The following day, the reporting party said her bank informed her that the cashier’s check she deposited the day before was fraudulent.

Coincidentally, the same day, another Daly City resident reported being scammed in nearly the identical situation as described above. This 30-year old reporting party said a couple of weeks ago, he placed an ad on Craigslist for the sale of an entertainment center for $500. He said someone contacted him in the same fashion, but this time the check was for $1,850. The reporting party fell for this and deposited the fraudulent check and withdrew $1,850 from his bank.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
