The vegetation fire has been extinguished. Hecker Pass Hwy will remain closed while PG&E repairs the downed power lines.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:
The Gilroy Fire Department, along with other area fire departments, are currently working a vegetation fire in the 2200 block of Hecker Pass Highway, in Gilroy. A large tree limb fell onto power lines which ignited the fire. PG&E has since cut the power lines, which will affect electricity to some local residents.
Hecker Pass Highway is currently closed in both directions about a half mile west of Santa Teresa Boulevard. This closure will be in effect until further notice. Updates will be given as information becomes available. Please consider an alternate route.
