Severe Weather Warning! Sheriff Victor Hill
Overview:
A strong storm system to our west continues to develop and is still forecast to begin spreading scattered showers and thunderstorms into north and west Georgia tonight. The main line of showers and thunderstorms will move through the state after midnight and continue through Wednesday morning. A few of storms associated with this system could be strong to severe.
It looks like the models are showing this system speeding up with the main line of storms pushing into NW GA around 1am - 2am. It will continue pushing SE and move into the ATL area by 3am - 4am. This system should be in the Columbus and Macon areas right around day break Wednesday morning.
Hazards 1: (Damaging Winds)
- Damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH will be the primary impact, especially with the strongest storms in the line.
Hazards 2: (Isolated tornadoes)
- With strong wind shear values associated with this system, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Hazards 3: (Hail)
- While most hail, if it occurs, will be a nickel to dime size, there is a chance of hail reaching quarter size.
Location:
- All of North and central GA will see showers and thunderstorms but the best location for any severe storms will be across the north and west central parts of the state, generally north of a line from Lagrange to Athens.
Timing:
- After midnight tonight to 10am Wednesday.
