Advisory

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to conduct a prescribed burn at the Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge today and tomorrow.

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service officials, there will be a prescribed burn taking place at the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge—located between Bluffton and Hilton Head Island—today and tomorrow to reduce hazardous fuels in forest areas. The burn will be closely monitored by officials, so there is no public safety threat. Motorists traveling in the area of the refuge are asked to drive carefully, as a large amount of smoke is expected to be produced by the burn.

The gate to access Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge will be open for visitors today, but closed tomorrow. The refuge is expected to re-open for visitors on Friday. Operations of the C.C. Haigh Jr. Boat Landing—located on the opposite side of U.S. 278 from the refuge—will not be impacted by the prescribed burn. Thank you for your continued attention to our advisories.
