Advisory

Use extreme caution on Spring Gulch Rd and Moulton Loop Rd tonight through weekend due to flooding. See link/email.

Snowmelt flooding is occurring in several areas in Teton County, particularly north of Jackson off of Spring Gulch Rd north of Sagebrush Dr. Travelers should use extreme caution when driving through flooded roadways, especially at night.  As little as 6" of fast moving water can knock you off of your feet; 12" of fast moving water can displace most cars; and 2' of fast moving water will displace most trucks and SUVs. Watch out for rockfall, mudflows, and other spring snowmelt conditions while traveling.

The latest forecast is available at www.weather.gov/riw. There is a Flood Advisory in effect for areas in the valley through 8:00am on Saturday. As of this evening, water has been seen receding in some areas.

If you have had flooding in your home, please take the following into account:

  • If you are on a private well for drinking water and you have experienced flooding, we highly recommend getting your water tested as soon as the flood waters subside. If you suspect your well could be contaminated, use bottled water until you confirm it is safe. Visit http://www.tetonwyo.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=242 for information on well testing from Teton County Public Health.
  • If you had flooding of your home, check to see if it impacted your electrical system or other utilities. Especially if the flood line is above electrical outlets it is recommended you have an electrician check to see if there are any safety concerns.
  • Sandbags and sand are available for free to the public for flood fighting. They are at Teton County Road and Levee at 3190 Adams Canyon Dr (south of Jackson). Property owners are responsible for filling, transporting, and disposing of sandbags. Sandbags will be left out, with sand and shovels, over the weekend for the public in the far east end of the Road and Levee yard (in the fenced area).
