UPDATE: The situation is under control and no longer hazardous.
The Gilroy Fire Department is currently working a chlorine gas spill in the 1100 block of Montebello Drive, in Gilroy. The affected residents have already been evacuated or instructed to shelter in place. We are asking the public to avoid this area for the next several hours as they allow the gas to dissipate to a safe level.
