#LASD Homicide Detectives Arrest Suspects in Compton Child Murder

Two men suspected in the murder of a three year old child that was shot as he sat in his car seat were arrested.

The incident began on the evening of Saturday, January 20, 2018, on the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard in the city of Compton, as two males began to argue in a business parking lot.  During the argument, both men fired gunshots at each other as one of the males began to enter an awaiting vehicle driven by his girlfriend.  Both vehicles then fled the scene.

Deputies were alerted by a 911 telephone call to respond to the 17200 block of south Central Avenue, in the city of Carson, regarding the three year old gunshot victim.  Upon their arrival, deputies contacted Suspect Harris, his girlfriend and her child who was suffering from a gunshot wound.  The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The second vehicle involved was occupied by the driver Suspect Ward.  The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling westbound away from the location on Alondra Boulevard and out of view.

On Monday, January 22, 2018, Homicide detectives arrested Suspect Dwayne Christopher Ward, male Black, 29 years of age, after he turned himself in to Homicide detectives.
