NARCAN nasal spray issued to Marietta Police Officers saves a life
The Marietta Police Department has been vocal about concerns regarding increased local opioid use and the dangers associated with it for over a year. In July of 2017 we shared with you that the Jim Ellis Automotive Group made a $6,500 donation that we used to purchase NARCAN nasal spray, a vital antidote used to help victims of opioid overdoses, for each of our officers.
Last Monday, March 19, we were given a $500 donation from local Realtor Yvette Williams. Williams explained that she had joined the organization “Realty4Rehab.” She stated they challenged Realtors to donate part of their commissions toward fighting addiction. Williams donated specifically toward the NARCAN program as the individual doses each officer carries will need to be replaced annually.
Hours before Williams was at our headquarters, morning watch officers found themselves confronted by a man asking for help with his brother who had snorted Heroin, lost consciousness and was struggling to breathe. The officers used their issued NARCAN and the training they have received to save the patient’s life.
We want to thank the community for partnering with us to combat this problem. While we will continue to seek to locate and arrest anyone dealing in the sale of illegal narcotics, we also recognize the grip addiction can have and the devastation it causes entire families. We hope this young man uses the second chance he has been given and seeks recovery.
