North Aurora seeks volunteers to join our Community Emergency Response Team

The North Aurora Community Emergency Response Team is seeking good people to join our team of disaster response volunteers!  No previous training or experience is needed; just some time, dedication and the desire to learn and be a part of a team.

In recent years, there have been tornadoes in the Illinois communities of Washington, Rochelle, Fairdale, Ottawa, LaSalle County and severe flooding in McHenry, Lake, and LaSalle counties.  Would you have been prepared?  Your family?  Your neighborhood?

C.E.R.T. or Community Emergency Response Team training teaches citizens basic disaster response skills to help them better cope with the aftermath of a disaster.  Through knowledge learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members are able to help others in their neighborhood or workplace when professional first responders are not immediately available.

The topics of the 6 week / 21 hour course are:
· Disaster Preparedness and Team Organization
· Disaster Medical Operations (2 parts)
· Light Search and Rescue Operations
· Disaster Fire Suppression & Utility Controls
· Disaster Psychology

The course meets on Wednesday evenings, May 2nd through June 6th, from 6-9pm, and the final session where we put it all together with a disaster simulation exercise (you’ll have a blast!!) is on Saturday, June 9th from 9am-1pm.  Don’t worry if you can’t make a session or two or if you’ll arrive a little late.

CERT volunteers are provided uniforms & equipment and offered additional training opportunities including severe weather recognition, CPR/First Aid/AED use, triage, traffic control, damage assessment, ground search and rescue and more!  If you would like to help others and you have a little weekend warrior in you, then this is for you!  Our volunteers range from in their 20’s to in their 70’s, retired and working full-time jobs, with families and single.

We have a great team but we need more good people to make it even better!  For more information, contact Emergency Management Coordinator Scott Buziecki at (630) 897-8705, extension 752 or [email protected] or see the attached flyer.
