Advisory

Sheriff's Narcotics Division and Victorville Deputies serve search warrant and locate illegal indoor marijuana grow

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, March 20, 2018 / 3:00 p.m.

INCIDENT: Indoor Marijuana Grow & Theft of Utilities

LOCATION: 14500 Block of Swallow Court, Victorville

SUSPECT: Bo Di LIN, age 43, resident of Victorville

SUMMARY:

The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division - Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) and deputies from the Victorville Police Department served a search warrant at the residence and found an illegal indoor marijuana grow. Over 700 marijuana plants, in various stages of growth, were found. The grow operation used high-powered lighting, air conditioning, fans, and exhaust blowers to control the climate inside the residence as well as an air-filtering system to control the odor of marijuana. Investigators also found the electricity at the location was being stolen to facilitate the grow operation.

The suspect - BIN was contacted during a traffic stop during the investigation. Investigators learned of a second residence in Victorville and served a search warrant there. Another marijuana grow with an electrical bypass was found by investigators. Over 450 marijuana plants were at the second residence. BIN was arrested without incident and later booked at the High Desert Detention Center.

Personnel from Southern California Edison (SCE) assisted in the electrical theft investigation. Suspects who grow marijuana illegally will commonly bypass the electrical meter because of the high amount of electricity used to operate the marijuana growing equipment. The loss from the theft of electricity at both locations will be several thousands of dollars.

The extreme measures used to illegally grow marijuana endangers the public living near the residence. An electrical short caused by the unpermitted electrical wiring most likely would have resulted in an explosion or fire in the residential community causing possible injuries to bystanders near the residence. The electrical power to both residences was disconnected so the faulty electrical wiring will not create a hazard to the public.

Personnel from the City of Victorville Code Enforcement Division responded to the residence to begin their investigation. The electrical power was disconnected by SCE and the residence was “red tagged” unsafe to occupy.

The suspect will face charges of Cultivation of Cannabis; more than 6 plants and Theft of Utilities.
