On March 20, 2018, Camarillo Police School Resource Officers arrested a 17-year-old high school student for being in possession of a weapon on campus. On March 20, 2018, Administrators at Frontier High School were made aware of a video posted on social media last Friday. The video showed a student displaying, what appeared to be a handgun, while he was on the school’s campus. There was no immediate threat to other students at the time he was displaying the gun. It was unclear if the weapon in the post was replica gun or an actual handgun. A School Resource Officer and other personnel were immediately sent to the school to begin an investigation. The student was contacted and was found not to be in possession of the handgun at that time. After a thorough investigation, the handgun was located at the student’s residence in Oxnard. The handgun was a BB Gun and resembled that of a 9mm Beretta handgun. The student was arrested for 626.10 PC- felony possession of a weapon on school property and was lodged into Ventura County Juvenile Hall. The Camarillo Police would like to remind the public that bringing any type of weapon onto a school campus or the allegation of a weapon on campus is taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly. All high school campuses in Camarillo have a School Resource Officer assigned to ensure the campus is a safe environment for learning. |
