Advisory

Nor'Easter storm on March 21, 2018

Attention Residents.  Due to the anticipated snowstorm to hit our area on Wednesday, March 21st , the following items must be noted:

The National Weather Service has issued the following warning - WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 8 AM EDT THURSDAY... * WHAT...HEAVY MIXED WINTER PRECIPITATION TRANSITIONING TO HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 12 TO 16 INCHES AND LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED.

Furthermore, high winds are expected to affect our area, with speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.  Please use caution as the winds, mixed with cold temperatures could result in frostbite.  Also, loose items in your yard, such as furniture, should be secured.

Currently there are no planned changes or disruptions of any services, including sanitations.  Recycling will be collected as normal; however, residents are urged to ensure that their cans are curbside.  This is for the safety of the men who collect the garbage.

At this time the Senior Bus and Medical Transportation will be operating as normal this week.  However, there may be cancellations of either service, depending on conditions during and after the storm.  Further notices will be issued should this change.

Snow emergency routes will be enforced.  Please do not park your car on the East side of Garden Street, the East side of Jefferson Street, the East side of Seventh Street, the North side of Division Avenue and the North side of Summit Avenue.  Please move as many cars off the streets as you can to make cleaning the streets easier for our Public Works Department.  Also, do not put items into the street to mark parking spots as this makes properly clearing the street difficult.  After the storm, Thursday and Friday, alternate side parking WILL be in effect.

When clearing your property, which must be done within 24 hours of the end of the storm, do not throw snow back into the street.  This action is both illegal and unsafe.  Violators will be issued a summons. Reminder that you also need to remove snow from the roof of your vehicle before driving.

Due to the possibility of a power outage, all residents are urged to make sure they have flashlights, portable radios and charge their cell phones before the storm.  Remember, household cordless phones will not work during a power outage.  Should you experience a power outage, and are on devices which require power to sustain life, please contact the Office of Emergency Management at 201-362-1942.  Do not approach any downed wires.

Residents should report downed wires or power outages by calling PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG.  Also, customers can report outages at www.pseg.com or by texting “OUT” to 4PSEG (47734). The utility’s mobile-friendly website includes an “Outage Map” that is updated every 15 minutes and displays the location and status of power outages in PSE&G’s service area.

Please keep off the streets as much as possible during this upcoming storm.  Please check on elderly or handicapped neighbors.  Keep informed, and keep safe.

Yours in Preparedness,
The Carlstadt Office of Emergency Management.
