INCIDENT: CVC 2800.2 - Failure to Yield
LOCATION: 15333 Rancherias Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT: Corey Hodges, 20 years old, resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On March 19, 2018 at 8:35 p.m. Deputy T. Verral responded to the AM/PM store located on Rancherias Road for a report of a male throwing a female to the ground. The caller stated the domestic disturbance occurred outside the store near the air and water pumps, next to a black sedan. When Verral arrived he saw a male standing near a black Chevrolet Impala and when the male suspect saw Verral approach in the patrol unit, the suspect got into the driver's seat and fled the parking lot, almost hitting several people in the process. The driver led Verral in a high speed pursuit onto State Highway 18, where the suspect ran two stop signs and a red light. The suspect turned west onto State Highway 18 at such a high speed, he lost control of his car and slid sideways through the intersection, almost hitting other vehicles that were stopped in a left turn lane. The suspect continued west in the east bound lanes of State Highway 18, where he reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. The suspect crossed a dirt island and continued west on Outer Highway 18 South where he ran another stop sign at Tao Road. For an unknown reason, the suspect slowed and Verral set up to perform a Pursuit Intervention Technique. However, the suspect veered off the road and into a dirt field where he became disabled. The driver fled on foot for a short distance before he was taken into custody without incident.
The driver was idnetified as Corey Hodges by his California driver's License. Hodges was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for Failure to Yield. Through investigation, deputies determined the original domestic distubance was unfounded.
