*Update* #LASD Homicide Dets Respond to Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting, 900 blk Durfee Av, S El Monte

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Detectives are continuing their investigation into a deputy-involved shooting which occurred Sunday morning, March 18, 2018, at 9:00 AM, in the unincorporated area of South El Monte.

Detectives have learned that Temple Station deputies responded to the 900 block of Durfee Avenue in response to a burglary in progress call.  Upon their arrival they contacted a male Hispanic 40 years old, to ascertain if he was involved in the burglary.  The suspect quickly walked away from the deputies and into the street.  Once in the street the suspect suddenly stopped and turned toward the deputies.  The suspect started to advance on the deputies while holding two large kitchen type knives, one in each hand.  That’s when a deputy involved shooting occurred.

One deputy shot the suspect who collapsed in the street after being shot in the upper body.  Paramedics responded and pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.

Two large 12” kitchen type knives belonging to the suspect were recovered at the scene next to the suspect’s body.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available.
