AUTO THEFT ALERT: An auto theft ring is operating in the Northern Valley Area. During the early morning hours of today between 1:00am-6:00am, three vehicles were stolen and five vehicles were broken into in the circled area on the map pictured below. If anyone has video surveillance on there residence in the circled area on the map, please contact the Harrington Park Police Department.

One of the various methods criminals are utilizing is an advanced technology to detect a key fob (car key) left in the vehicle. Modern, high-end vehicle’s side view mirrors will fold in when the vehicle is locked and stay out when unlocked. Thieves are also looking for this simple indicator.

Here are things you can do to help protect your car from theft:

1. Don’t leave your car unlocked

2. Never leave your car running while unattended or unlocked

3. Do not leave a spare key fob near your vehicle.

4. Do not leave your key fob in your vehicle.... Ever

5. Never leave your windows open

6. Install an audible alarm system and a visible anti-theft device

7. Consider installing a GPS tracking system in your vehicle.

8. Don’t leave valuable personal property in your car.

9. Install a camera system in your driveway that records.

10. Always report suspicious activity. If you see something say something.
