Parents Reunite with Industry Station Deputies Who Saved
La Puente Toddler with CPR

Who:          Captain Timothy Murakami, Deputy Erik Nava and Deputy Jose Cruz, Industry Station; toddler Kevin Lopez, 16 months old; and parents.

What:         Deputies Nava and Cruz will reunite with little Kevin Lopez and his parents after an emergent event which almost claimed his young life.  With thanks to two quick-working and focused deputies, the baby was saved and alive today.

Monday afternoon, March 12, 2018, Industry Sheriff’s Station received a frantic 9-1-1 call of a baby not breathing in the city of La Puente.  The little boy was rescued by a neighbor from being trapped by a motorized gate and no longer breathing; the caller reported the boy turning a purple color and was unsure if he were dead.

The deputies administered lifesaving CPR for approximately four minutes before paramedics arrived, and with the urgent need to transport the toddler to a hospital, they coordinated the blocking of streets and intersections for a clear path of travel.

Fire paramedic personnel and the treating physician credited Deputy Nava and Deputy Cruz’s actions as instrumental in saving the life of the unresponsive patient.

As a special note, this is the second time Deputy Nava saved a child’s life.  It was on Monday, November 16, 2015, he was credited for with saving the life of a seven-month-old child who also stopped breathing.

                   3:00 P.M.

Where:       Industry Sheriff’s Station
