Man In Crisis Saved By Police & Off Duty Correction Officer On Route 42

On March 14, 2018 at approximately 8:26 AM, the Gloucester Township Police received a report of male who was walking in the roadway in the area of the Black Horse Pike by the Old Black Horse Pike.  Responding officers located the man, who was now in the highway on northbound Route 42 near Exit 9B.

Officers made contact with the man on the highway, and it was apparent that the man was in crisis and was jumping into traffic.  An off duty Camden County Corrections Officer who was traveling on Route 42, stopped and assisted with trying to help the man.  Additional Gloucester Township Police Officers, and the New Jersey State Police quickly responded and stopped traffic in both directions in order to safely take the troubled man into custody.  Officers were able to calm the man, and they took him into custody without any injuries to the man or the officers.

The man was immediately transferred to Gloucester Township EMS and was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.  Route 42 was quickly re-opened after approximately 5 minutes.

The identity of the man is not being released at this time.
