Home Visit leads to a narcotics arrest on city’s north side

INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis man is behind bars after an investigation conducted by Marion County Community Corrections (MCCC) and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) North District officers.  This investigation led to the seizure of drugs, body armor, ammunition, and cash.

On March 13, 2018, North District Flex Team, North District Narcotics along with district officers assisted Marion County Community Corrections (MCCC) with a home visit at 3615 N. Layman Avenue.  While officers check on Charles Smith they observed evidence of narcotics dealing. North District Flex Team and Narcotics Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence.  IMPD Criminal Interdiction detectives also assisted with the search.  Seized from the residence were:

  • 57.61 grams of suspected powder cocaine separated into two 1 ounce baggies (approx.)
  • 1 large baggie containing several ounces of a white powder
  • 21.8 grams a rocky white powder (approx.)
  • 1 set of upper torso body armor
  • 1 box of 9mm ammunition
  • $6,130 in cash
IMPD detectives arrested 57-year-old Charles Smith Jr. for dealing cocaine and possession of cocaine. Smith was transported to Central Receiving by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.  The Marion County Prosecutors Office (MCPO) will review the case and make a charging decision.
