Major Traffic Collision Incident

On March 12, 2018, at approximately 8:06 pm, officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a major injury traffic collision in the 17900 block of northbound Hawthorne Boulevard.    On arrival, officers discovered that a 2016, Kia van had collided with a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard.  The initial investigation indicates the Kia van was traveling northbound in the number four lane of Hawthorne Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing westbound, outside of a crosswalk in the 17900 block of Hawthorne Boulevard.  The pedestrian, a 24 year-old male, was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene.  The subject sustained major injuries and was ultimately transported to a local hospital.  The driver of the vehicle, a 65 year-old female, was not injured; alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

The northbound lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard between 182nd Street to 178th Street were closed for approximately five hours during the investigation.
