KINGSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
For Immediate Release

Tuesday, March 13, 2018
Law enforcement officers and agencies are frequently requested by schools, businesses, and community members for direction and presentations on what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event.  The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center in San Marcos in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.  Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, medical issues, and drills.
The Kingsville Police Department has several officers on staff who have received the Train the Trainer training in this area and have been instructing the course since 2015.  Due to the recent proliferation in these sorts of incidents throughout the United States the Kingsville Police Department is making this training one of its highest priorities for our citizens.  Chief Ricardo Torres states, “The goal is for our officers to provide training and information so that citizens will survive these encounters.”  In addition this training will be provided at no cost to schools, businesses and community members by contacting Chief of Police Ricardo Torres at 592-4311 Option #5, or via e-mail to [email protected]
In order to maximize the number of citizens receiving the training several smaller groups may be asked to attend the training together.
