Deputies serve sex offender warrant and issue another for living too close to school 
Capt. Shanon Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Timothy Andrew Ledford, 33, of 5500 Sugar Hill Road in Marion, with a sex offender registry violation.
Ledford is a sex offender registered in Catawba County who was wanted for leaving Catawba and failing to advise the Sheriff’s Office there.
On Thursday, Feb. 22, McDowell sheriff’s deputies went to the Sugar Hill Road residence and arrested Ledford on the outstanding warrant. While there, they discovered he had been living near West Marion Elementary School.
By law, registered sex offenders aren’t allowed to reside within 1,000 feet of a school or day care.
