INCIDENT: Search Warrants – Illegal Marijuana Grows

LOCATION: Town of Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): *See below for additional information*

SUMMARY:

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Marijuana Enforcement Team conducted investigations resulting in the service of four search warrants at locations in Apple Valley. The locations had illegal indoor marijuana grows on the properties. The investigations revealed the marijuana grows were not in compliance with California’s Medical and Adult Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MAUCRSA) and Apple Valley’s ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity.

Over 3,000 marijuana plants and over 30 pounds of harvested marijuana was seized during the search warrants. Two of the locations had evidence of electrical theft to support the illegal growing operations. Investigators don’t believe the locations are linked together.

California’s newest form of marijuana regulations, MAUCRSA, went into full effect on January 1st. The Town of Apple Valley has an ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity which includes growing over 6 marijuana plants. Apple Valley Code Enforcement personnel assisted in the investigations.

The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California’s marijuana laws and take down these illegal growing operations. Persons found guilty of violating the state law and county ordinance are subject to fines, prosecution, and seizure of property.

Property owners who are illegally growing marijuana or are aware their tenants are growing marijuana on their properties in violation of the state law and local ordinances may also be subject to civil or criminal sanctions. Property owners are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement or code compliance agency to confirm if cultivating marijuana is prohibited or allowed under specific regulations.
