Deputies investigating a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision - the roadway is now open

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Village Drive / Vasquez Avenue, Victorville
SUMMARY:
On Friday, March 9, 2018 at approximately 4:17 AM, deputies from the Victorville Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision on Village Drive just north of Vasquez Avenue. Deputies determined that a gold GMC Sierra 2500 pickup truck was driving south on Village Drive. A female pedestrian was walking south in the #1 southbound lane of traffic on Village Drive and was wearing dark clothing. When the driver of the GMC saw the pedestrian, the driver attempted to brake and swerve to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so and struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by American Medical Response personnel. The driver of the GMC was uninjured. The driver of the GMC remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The Victorville City Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation. Village Drive, south of Clovis Street and north of Llanada Avenue, remained closed in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses. Village Drive was reopened in both directions at approximately 10:30 a.m.
