MEDIA ADVISORY/NEWS RELEASE “Community Eye” A program to enhance Emeryville Police Department’s crime reduction strategy

MEDIA ADVISORY/NEWS RELEASE

Subject: “Community Eye” A program to enhance Emeryville Police Department’s crime reduction strategy

Narrative: The Emeryville Police Department is excited to announce the roll out of “Community Eye” which builds on existing partnerships and practices in which community members share information and video footage with the police department to help solve crime. We currently reach out to the community in search of video footage after a crime has been committed. This new program allows residents and business owners to pre-register the locations of their video camera systems. This crime prevention and investigative tool will more easily identify the locations of video surveillance systems and shorten the time-frame necessary to identify and obtain video evidence, and expedite the identification of those responsible for committing crimes.

In continuing to promote the City of Emeryville’s vision of proactive, problem-solving partnerships with the community, the Emeryville Police Department is offering this program as an additional tool to deter and solve criminal activity in our neighborhoods. Many business owners and residents already operate private surveillance systems. As crimes occur in their respective areas, community members are not always aware that their surveillance systems may have captured information that could prove vital in a law enforcement investigation. Proactive communication and strong partnerships between the police department and all members of the community is a positive step towards a safer community. The program is 100% voluntary. We are looking forward to expanding partnerships with community members to create a safer Emeryville.
